[UPDATE] Android 4.0 ROM for Samsung Spica

Good news Samsung Spica owners!Criminal has released a Alpha version of Ice Cream Sandwich for the Spica. The is a lot of bugs but it still runs perfectly fine.

miniChangelog:
- try to fix recovery
- fixed telephony
- minor fixes in SpicaRIL
- using all oldRil functions for 3G: facilitylock,icccardstatus,datacall,skipbrokendata call,signalstrength

I try to focus on 3G, so I need more logs… For example turn on/off data, turn on/off airplane mode, try to add APNs, etc…

Thanks

Samsung Galaxy S II ICS Enters Beta

gs2

Although Samsung is not expected to release Android Ice Cream Sandwich earlier than next year you can still have a taste of this ROM on your Galaxy S II device. Samsung has released an early beta version of the system for internal tests but the ROM somehow managed to get itself out of the testers’ lab and into the real world.

The ROM was uploaded by an XDA developers forum member who calls himself tfn. He reports the system to have some serious bugs that make it undesired among people who want to use it as a daily ROM. All the basic functions, like calling or texting work, but users have reported apps that force close and some lags in the system. Also, the fact Samsung (un)surprisingly decided to use TouchWiz UI for his phone is a bit of a drawback as it doesn’t really let users see the advantages of the newest OS from Google. Users blame Samsung for removing the “awesome widget – app transition” and report the RIL instability. Also, the system by default doesn’t use Hardware acceleration and in order to do that the user needs to got o Developer Options and check “Force GPU Rendering”.

Well, as the name suggests this is an early release of the system, most probably not even authorised to be used by end users and so such bugs should be expected. However, if you want a taste of ICS on a Galaxy S II, head over to the link below and download the system. Good luck.

First ever quad-core Android smartphone to hit stores in February?

htc_edge_leak_feature

According to Pocketnow.com HTC is about to release a new handset powered by a quad-core processor. This would be the world’s first Android smartphone equipped with four cores.

The device called HTC Edge is said to have a 4.7-inch 720p Display, 1GB of RAM, 8MP camera and Beats Audio System. CPU is said to be the NVidia Tegra 3 clocking at 1.5GHz, which, together with 32GB of internal storage, Bluetooth 4.0 and under 10mm thick body makes this device a dream smartphone to most of the android fans.

HTC Edge is expected to hit stores late Q1 or early Q2, which means it is possible it will be available with ICS out of the box. It is also possible that the device will also feature a new version of Sense UI 4.0 as well as new content services such as HTC Listen, HTC Read, and HTC Play and HTC Watch with HD movies.

HTC Edge surely is a must-have device. Question is whether it really includes all the features mentioned above and how much it will all cost.

The numbers show Froyo with the Gold Medal, Gingerbread with the Silver Medal following Android 2.1 with the Bronze Medal. Honeycomb has grown slightly from 1.4 to 1.8 percent. But Gingebread won’t look that great with the big numbers as Ice Cream Sandwich might show up next week.
